Fresco is open: a daily painting game

The fourth daily game is live. Fresco shows one famous painting a day and asks you to name the painter. The name waits under it as blank letter tiles, so its length is part of the clue.

You have six guesses and no clock. A name that cannot fit the tiles costs nothing; a wrong one that fits spends a guess. Stuck, you can buy a letter. Every painting is a public-domain masterpiece.

Fresco has its own leaderboard, badges and profile page, and a page of all 154 painters it draws from, by era.

Meanwhile is open: a daily history game

The third daily game is live. Meanwhile asks whether two things from history were around at the same time. Could Mozart have seen a hot air balloon? Is Cleopatra nearer in time to the Great Pyramid, or to us?

Twelve cards a day, each on its own short clock. After every call, the real dates are drawn on a timeline to scale, so you see how far off your instinct was.

Meanwhile has its own leaderboard, badges and profile page, and every subject the cards draw from, from people to paintings to extinct animals, has its own page of dates.

Lattice is open: a daily word square

The second daily game is live. Lattice is a five by five grid where every row and every column is a word, with no clues: a few tiles are given, and the rest you work out from the way the words cross.

You have six checks. Each one marks a line green, amber or brick, and a green tile holds in both directions. Five correct lines finish the grid, so a clean solve leaves one check spare. A typo costs nothing: it is refused, not counted.

Three grids a day. Easy needs no sign-in; Medium and Difficult unlock as you solve. Finished or not, all ten words are defined at the end, and Lattice has its own leaderboard, badges and profile page.

BattleGuess is now a home for several games

The word game you have been playing has a name of its own: Lexis. Nothing about it has changed, it has simply moved to its own corner of the site, and the front page is now a shelf where you choose what to play.

The whole site has been redrawn, and it now follows your device. Dark if your phone or laptop is set to dark, light if it is set to light, and the toggle in the top bar overrides it whenever you like. Your choice is remembered.

A warmer, clearer dark mode

We have refined the dark theme: warmer tones, lifted backgrounds and brighter text, so words, tiles and the board read easily during night games. Same cinematic feel, better clarity.

Every Lexis match now counts. You start at 1200, and your rating moves after each game, further when you beat someone rated above you. Your first ten games place you on the board, then it settles. Sign in and find out where you stand.
